Michael D. Blair age 67, passed away in his home at Hoffman Lake in the company of his loved ones on Monday February 9th, 2015 at 10:40 PM. Michael was born on November 14th, 1947 in Muncie Indiana. Mike (as he was known by all) graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1967, and was football MVP his senior year. Mike served and retired from the US Navy and Reserves after serving twenty-two years, including four years as a Seabee, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer (E-7). Mike joined the Atwood Volunteer Fire Department in February 1985 and served as firefighter and Secretary of the department, Mike also served the Kosciusko County Fireman Association for many years as Treasure, was a member of the Fire Investigation Team of Kosciusko County and instrumental in the county Smoke Detector Program. Mike attended numerous firefighter trainings and was state level certified as a First and Second Class Firefighter, Master certification in Strategy and Tactics along with Fire / Arson Investigations. Mike served two terms as a Commissioner on the State of Indianas Fire and Building Safety Commission. Mike was a committed employee of the RR Donnelley Sons, Warsaw and retired after forty- two years of service. Mike frequently entertained family and friends around his back yard fire pit and enjoyed grilling and his spectacular July 4th fireworks show that he would put on for the neighborhood to see. He also enjoyed mowing the neighborhood on his riding lawn mower. Mike is survived by his loving wife Cheryl (Moody) Blair of twenty eight years whom he married on November 1st, 1986 in Warsaw, a daughter Cori (companion John) Hargrave, Warsaw; a son Tirean (companion Blanca) Blair, Warsaw; grandchildren Jayden and Taytum Hargrove, Warsaw; brother Kent (Cherry) Blair, Muncie; sister Jaralynn J.K. Blair, Muncie. Mike was preceded in death by his parents John and Jacqueline (Harden) Blair, and a brother Bruce Blair. Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 17th, 2015 at 11:00 am in Warsaw Community Church, Warsaw. Visitation is scheduled Monday February 16th, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association Memorial Service at 7:30 pm. Pastors Barb Hidelbaugh and Jim Churchill will officiate the service. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery with Military Rites by the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard, American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. Post #1126.
