James L. Freel, 76 of Pierceton, Indiana passed away at 5:40 pm Sunday, November 30, 2014 in Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw. On December 30, 1937, James was born in Huntington, Indiana to Charles and Rosemary (Houston) Freel. He was united in marriage to Joan M. Harris on November 20, 1955 in Huntington, Indiana, who preceded him in death on April 20, 2014. They had been joined together for fifty eight years. James graduated from Union Township/Union Center High School, Huntington in 1955. He worked for Wertenberger Tires, Huntington for seventeen years and then worked for Peabody Fireplace Manufacturing, North Manchester. James and Joan moved to Kosciusko County in 1974. James and his brother also worked together as custom butchers for several years, butchering mainly hogs and cattle. James enjoyed antiques, collecting and going to auctions and garage sales. He liked tractors, working outside taking care of his property and cutting wood. He was survived in death by three sons, Jan (and spouse Lori) Freel, South Whitley, Jerry Freel, Kendallville and Jay (and spouse Janet) Freel, South Whitley; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was also survived by four brothers; Ron (and spouse Judy) Freel, Carl(and spouse Sue) Freel, Gail (and spouse Deb) Freel, Tom (and spouse Judy) Freel and two sisters, Pat (and spouse Doyle) Bowers and Jodi Freel. James was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Evan Freel. A funeral service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, December 4, 2014 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton with Pastor Barry Faucett officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, Pierceton. Visitation hours will be from 4:00 8:00 pm Wednesday, December 3, 2014 and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, in the Pierceton funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Childrens Hospital of the donors choice.
