Jack Albert Helvey, 83 of Fort Myers Beach, Florida and formerly of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 3:25 pm on Monday, March 2, 2015 in Hope Hospice House, Fort Myers, Florida. Jack was born July 2, 1931 in Warsaw, Indiana to Lozier Bozo and Betty (Rice) Helvey. He graduated from Warsaw High School in Warsaw, where he was a member of the basketball and football teams and the Lettermans Club. He married Elaine Long on February 14, 1953 in Warsaw, Indiana who survives. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy serving on the ships the USS Baltimore (CA-68) and USS Mississippi (BB-41). While in Warsaw Jack was a member of the Breading Cigar Store gentlemens club where he was voted Man of the Year in 1980, and often enjoyed being the practical joker. He retired from Little Crow Foods after many years of service and moved to Fort Myers Beach, Florida. In Fort Myers Beach he belonged to the Bayside Estates Mens Club. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, watching basketball, puttering around in his shed and spending time in Florida. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Elaine Helvey, three daughters, Debra Miller, Silver Lake, Indiana, Diane Jones, Warsaw, Indiana and Penny Helvey, Warsaw Indiana, 1 grandson Neil Harris, Silver Lake, Indiana and 1 granddaughter Amy Harris, Warsaw, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister. A funeral service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Rick Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw with military honors by the American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126, Warsaw. Visitation hours will be from 1:00 3:00 and 5:00 8:00 pm Monday, March 9, 2015 in the funeral chapel, Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #49, Nursing Scholarship, 301 North Buffalo Street, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.
