George Sankey, age 95, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. George was born October 9, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to George and Margaret (Heesom) Sankey. He was united in marriage to Edith Amos of Cumberland, Indiana on August 31, 1947. He graduated from Charleston High School in West Virginia in 1943 and enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He proudly served as a navigator on a B-24 Liberator during WWII. He received an Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and 3 Bronze Stars during the war. Afterwards, he continued his education obtaining a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He worked as a superintendent in construction and was the Vice President of City Asphalt and Paving, Youngtown, OH for 35 years retiring in 1987. He was a longtime active member of the Western Reserve United Methodist Church and was a founding member of the Youngstown Model Railroad Club. Survivors include children, Jeanne (Bruce) Grossnickle of Sanibel, FL, Patricia Sankey of Australia, Mark (Cim) Sankey of Tucson, AZ; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by wife, Edith Sankey in September 2004 and a son, Michael (Lynn) Sankey of Phoenix, AZ in February 2019. Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield, OH. All arrangements are entrusted to McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
